Knowledge levels of general dental practitioners and senior dental students about antibiotic prophylactic measures in children with heart disease in Isfahan in 2010

چكيده مقدمه: احتمال وقوع اندوكارديت عفوني توسط فلور ميكروبي دهان و متعاقب مداخلات درماني دندان‌پزشكي كه به خون‌ريزي باز در حفره دهان منجر مي‌شوند، وجود دارد؛ بنابراين دندان‌پزشك بايد قادر به تجويز نوع داروي مورد نياز در پروفيلاكسي عليه اندوكارديت عفوني ضمن درمان‌هاي دندان‌پزشكي باشد. هدف از اين پژوهش، بررسي ميزان آگاهي دندان‌پزشكان عمومي و دانشجويان سال آخر دندان‌پزشكي از اصول پروفيلاكسي با آنتي‌بيوتيك در كودكان مبتلا به بيماري‌هاي قلبي شهر اصفهان بود. مواد و روش‌ها: تحقيق انجام شده از نوع ميداني و مقطعي است كه در پاييز و زمستان سال 1389 در شهر اصفهان انجام شد. پس از جمع‌آوري اطلاعات، پرسش‌نامه‌اي تهيه گرديد و بين 111 نفر (مرد و زن) توزيع شد. بعد از جمع‌آوري پرسش‌نامه‌ها، اطلاعات به دست آمده به نرم‌افزار 11SPSS وارد شد سپس توسط آزمون‌هاي آناليز واريانس يك طرفه، آزمون Leven و آزمون Student-t مورد تجزيه و تحليل قرار گرفت (05/0 = ?). يافته‌ها: دانشجويان ترم آخر دندان‌پزشكي، با ميانگين 12/3 ± 28/12 و 018/0 = p value و دندان‌پزشكان تازه فارغ‌التحصيل با ميانگين 33/3 ± 21/12 و 031/0 = p value نسبت به ساير گروه‌ها با سابقه كاري بيشتر، از وضعيت متوسط قابل قبول برخوردار بودند. دندان‌پزشكان عمومي با سابقه كار بيش از 17 سال با ميانگين 66/2 ± 84/8 و 06/0 = p value ضعيف‌ترين نتيجه را كسب كردند. نتيجه‌گيري: دانشجويان ترم آخر دندان‌پزشكي و دندان‌پزشكان تازه فارغ‌التحصيل، ميزان آگاهي بيشتري از اصول پروفيلاكسي با آنتي‌بيوتيك در كودكان مبتلا به بيماري‌هاي قلبي برخوردار بودند كه احتمالاً به علت قرار داشتن در محيط دانشگاه و دسترسي بيشتر و آسان‌تر به منابع علمي مي‌باشد. كليد واژه‌‌ها: اندوكارديت، آنتي‌بيوتيك پروفيلاكسي، دندان‌پزشك عمومي.

Abstract Introduction: Infectious endocarditis might occur by oral microbial flora subsequent to dental procedures leading to bleeding in the oral cavity. Therefore, the dental practitioner should be able to prescribe appropriate antibiotics in the prophylactic measures against bacterial endocarditis during dental procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of general dental practitioners and senior dental students about the principles of antibiotic prophylaxis in children with cardiac problems in Isfahan. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out in winter 2010 in Isfahan. After data collection, a questionnaire was designed and distributed among 111 male and female general dental practitioners and senior dental students. Data was analyzed by one-way ANOVA, Levene’s test and t-test using SPSS 11 (? = 0.05). Results: The results showed that senior dental students (mean=12.28 ± 3.12, p value = 0.018) and recently graduated dental practitioners (mean 12.21 ± 3.33, p value = 0.031) were in the medium acceptable level of knowledge compared to other groups with more job experiences. General dental practitioners with more than 17 years of job experience (mean = 8.84 ± 2.66, p value = 0.06) achieved the lowest score. Conclusion: Recently graduated dental practitioners and senior dental students had a higher knowledge level about the principles of antibiotic prophylaxis in children suffering from heart diseases, which might be attributed to being in the academic atmosphere of the university and their greater and easier access to the relevant references.
