Toothpastes: A review of types, ingredients and possible side effects

چكيده مقدمه: خمير دندانها پراستفاده ترين و پر فروش ترين محصولات بهداشتي دهان و دندان هستند و كاربرد آنها يكي از معمولترين رفتارهاي بهداشت دهان و دندان در كشورهاي پيشرفته ميباشد. امروزه تنوع وسيعي از اين محصولات براي اهداف گوناگون در بازار ميباشند كه انتخاب محصول مناسب را براي بيماران و همچنين توصيه آن توسط دندان پزشكان و بهداشت كاران را مشكل نموده است. اين مقاله جزييات اجزا خمير دندانها و كاربردهاي باليني آنها را شرح ميدهد و سعي دارد دندان پزشكان را در تجويز خمير دندان مناسب بر اساس نياز هاي شخصي بيمارانشان ياري رساند. شرح مقاله: اين مطالعه يك مطالعه مروري است كه از جستجو در منابع كتابخانه‌اي و سايت‌هاي اينترنتي Pubmed و ISI Web of Science و موتور جستجوي google بين سالهاي 1973 تا 2011 با استفاده از كليد واژه هاي خمير دندان، پريودنتيكس، پلاك دنداني انجام شده است. يافته‌ها: تنوع وسيعي از خمير دندانهاي ضد پوسيدگي، ضد پلاك و ژنژويت، ضد تشكيل جرم، از بين برنده حساسيت دنداني و انواع سفيد كننده دندان وجود دارند كه حاوي طيف وسيعي از اجزا فعال و غير فعال مي باشند. انواع مواد ساينده، مرطوب كننده، دترجنتها، مواد اتصال دهنده، ژله اي كننده، طعم دهنده، شيرين كننده و نگه دارنده در كنارمواد فعال درمان كننده مانند تركيبات متنوع فلورايد، باكتريو استاتها، آنزيم ها، پيرو فسفاتها و تركيبات كاهنده حساسيت دنداني و غيره از جمله اين اجزا هستند. در مطالعات انجام شده، تاثير، معايب و مزاياي هر يك ازاين اجزا مورد بحث قرار گرفته است. نتيجه‌‌گيري: آشنايي دندان پزشكان با تركيب و اجزاي خمير دندانها و همچنين عملكرد اجزا فعال و غير فعال آنها، ضروري است و مي تواند گامي موثر در تسهيل انتخاب و تجويز مناسب خمير دندانها براي بيماران باشد. كليد واژه‌ها: خمير دندان، پريودنتيكس، پلاك دنداني.

Abstract Introduction: Toothpastes are one of the most widely sold and used dental products, with their use as one of the most popular oral hygiene behaviors in developed countries. A large variety of toothpastes are available on the market for different purpose, making it difficult for patients to select appropriate ones and for clinicians to prescribe the most useful one. This review provides details on the ingredients of toothpastes and their clinical use, trying to assist oral care practitioners in recommending appropriate toothpastes to their patients based on their individual needs. Materials and Methods: This review was carried out by running a search in various databases, including references books, PubMed, ISI Web of Science and Google search engine from 1973 to 2011 using the terms toothpastes, Periodontics and dental plaque. Results: There are large varieties of toothpastes for different purposes: caries prevention, gingivitis prevention, anti-calculus, dentin hypersensitivity prevention and for tooth whitening, with a wide range of active and non-active ingredients, including abrasives, humectants, preservatives, thickening or binding agents, detergents, flavoring agents and therapeutic agents as fluoride, bacteriostatics, pyrophosphates, tooth desensitizing agents etc. Some studies have evaluated the effects, advantages and disadvantages of each ingredient. Conclusion: It is absolutely necessary for dental practitioners to have a sound knowledge of chemical compositions and ingredients of toothpastes to be able to assist their patients in selecting appropriate and efficacious toothpastes.
