A study of the drawbacks of teaching political history:the case of the course called The history of Iranian developments

مباحث تاريخي، در سطوح مختلف و گرايش‌هاي مختلف رشته‌ي علوم سياسي، جايگاه برجسته‌اي دارد و محور شمار قابل توجهي از واحد‌هاي درسي اين رشته‌ي به حساب مي‌آيد. چنين جايگاه و اهميتي از آن روست كه تصور مي‌شود به دليل تاريخمندي نسبي هستي‌ها و پديده‌هاي سياسي، آموزش تاريخ مي‌تواند به فهم هستي‌هاي سياسي كمك كند. با اين حال، يك مطالعه‌ي موردي كه گزارش آن در اين نوشتار مي‌آيد، نشان مي‌دهد كه با وجود نوآوري‌ها و اصلاحات پراكنده و انفرادي، وجه غالب يا الگوي رايج آموزش تاريخ (معاصر ايران) در رشته‌ي علوم سياسي، چندان مناسب نيست. بي‌توجهي يا كم‌توجهي به اهميت تاريخ براي رشته‌ي علوم سياسي، سبب شده است كه الگوي رايج آموزش تاريخ (معاصر ايران) و روايت ناشي از آن، بي‌شباهت به نوعي گاهشمار محض نباشد. چنين روايتي، بيشتر كنجكاوي تاريخي خواننده را ارضا مي‌كند و در شناخت زندگي سياسي، چندان اثرگذار نيست

Historical discussions have a unique place in various levels and fields or disciplines of political sciences and are pivotal in a great number of courses and lessons in the discipline of political sciences. The unique place of history is due to the fact that it is assumed that since political events and phenomena occur in a bed of history, the teaching of history can help in the understanding of political phenomena. However, a case study which is the basis of the present article reveals that in spite of some innovations and some sporadic individual initiatives, the dominant pattern and model of teaching the contemporary history of Iran is not so much beneficial for the discipline of political sciences. Lack of attention to the importance of history for the discipline of political history has led to the changing of the teaching of contemporary history of Iran to a kind of mere chronology of events. Such approach can only satisfy the historical curiosity of the reader in terms of the date of events, and cannot provide any opportunity for the understanding of the political life and political epistemology.
