Aesthetic Expression and the Expressiveness of Language

The aim of this paper is to remark and isolate one direction aesthetic theory has taken in contemporary aesthetics. This will be approached through the Hegelian-Crocean axiom explaining that works of art express what is possible to be expressed only in terms of a given medium. Reviewing objections to this axiom, it will be indi cated what phenomena in art and in psychoanalysis may be taken as support for a new theoretical insight.
