چكيده
مقدمه: بره موم محصول كندوي عسل است كه ويژگي آنتي‌اكسيدان دارد. ساير اثرات آن شامل خواص ضد باكتري، ضد ويروس، ضد قارچ، ضد سرطان و ضد التهاب مي‌باشد. هدف مقاله مروري حاضر، بررسي پژوهش‌هاي انجام شده و گردآوري اثرات كاربردهاي متعدد بره موم در بهبود سلامت دهان و دندان بود.
شرح مقاله: جستجو با استفاده از كليد واژه‌هاي Propolis، و با تركيب با Oral health و
Dental treatment به تنهايي يا به صورت تركيبي در بانك‌هاي الكترونيكي فارسي مشتمل بر منابع Google و پايگاه‌هاي اطلاعات علمي: وزارت بهداشت، بانك اطلاعات مقالات علوم پزشكي ايران (Medlib.ir)، پژوهشگاه اطلاعات و مدارك علمي ايران (SID)، بانك اطلاعات نشريات كشور (Iran Medex) و (Magiran)، همچنين جستجو در بانك‌هاي الكترونيكي لاتين از طريق PubMed و ISI web of knowledge در بازه زماني 1997 تا 2009 صورت گرفت. مقالات بر اساس معيارهاي ورود به مطالعه انتخاب شدند و مورد بررسي قرار گرفتند.
يافته‌ها: تاكنون بره موم در درمان زخم‌هاي جراحي، ماده شستشو دهنده داخل كانال، مهار فرايند پوسيدگي، درمان پريودنتيت و حساسيت عاجي، به عنوان ماده ضد قارچ و ضد باكتري در داخل كانال در پژوهش‌هاي دندانپزشكي بررسي شده است. در بيشتر مطالعات ماده مزبور اثربخشي مناسبي داشته است.
نتيجه‌‌گيري: با توجه به ويژگي‌هاي بسيار مفيد مطرح شده براي اين ماده از جمله اثرات ضد التهاب، ضد باكتري و ضد قارچ قوي، و از همه مهم‌تر تحريك سيستم ايمني كه مي‌تواند مانع بسياري از بيماري‌ها شود، به نظر مي‌رسد اين ماده پتانسيل استفاده بيشتر در علوم دندانپزشكي را دارد كه نيازمند بررسي‌هاي آينده است.

Abstract
Introduction: Propolis is a beehive product which contains antioxidants. It also has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-carcinogenic and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of the present article was to review literature and collect data on various applications of propolis to promote oral health.
Review Report: Twenty-two different studies were selected, based on inclusion criteria, by running a search for the key word “propolis”, alone and/or combined with “oral health” and “dental treatment” in national and international electronic databases including medlib.ir, SID, Iranmedex, Magiran, PubMed and ISI Web of Knowledge from 1997 to 2009. The twenty-two selected articles were published from 1997 to 2009.
Results: Efficacy of propolis in wound healing, as an intracanal irrigation agent, in caries prevention, in the treatment of periodontitis and dentinal hypersensitivity, and as an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agent has been evaluated and demonstrated in different dental studies.
Conclusion: Considering the useful characteristics of this material including anti-inflammatory activity, antibacterial and anti-fungal effects and particularly provoking the immune system, which might be useful in preventing many diseases, it seems that this material has the potential to be used in dental sciences; however, further evaluations are necessary.
