رديف، به عنوان عنصري كمال بخش، همواره مورد توجّه سخنوران سخن‌سنج بوده است و از جهات ضرب آهنگ موسيقايي و بلاغي، شعر را شنيدني‌تر و گوش‌نوازتر مي‌كند؛ البتّه مشروط بر آن كه از نظر معاني، ارتباط تام با بافت سخن داشته و شعر، بدان نيازمند باشد. خاقاني، علاقه فراواني به استفاده از رديف در اشعارش دارد پيش از او، كمتر كسي را مي‌شناسيم كه به اين وسعت، به عنصر رديف و گونه هاي مختلف زباني آن روي آورده باشد. رديف‌هاي شعر خاقاني، غالباً بر اساس مفهوم كلّي شعر انتخاب شده‌اند و بدين‌سان، هماهنگي بين لفظ و معنا، برقرار شده است. رديف بيشتر اشعار او، با بافت و محتواي شعر، از لحاظ معنايي، تناسب دارد و گوياي حال و هواي احساسي آن است. اغلب اشعار ديوان خاقاني، مردّف هستند كه اكثر اين رديف‌ها، در قالب‌هاي مختلف شعري، از نوع فعلي هستند، هر چند انواع ديگر كلمه: اسم، حرف، ضمير، صفت، قيد، جمله و شبه جمله نيز در رديف‌هاي اشعار مشاهده مي‌شود. رديف‌هاي او در يك شعر، گاه هم معني نيستند و از لحاظ دستوري نيز، ساختار همانند و همسو ندارند. رديف هر بيت او، با اجزاي ديگر بيت، تشكيل دهنده آرايه ادبي است كه جز جنبه بلاغي آن، موسيقي‌زاست و مي‌تواند برانگيزاننده احساس دروني خواننده باشد.

Whole word rhyming or "Radeef" has always attracted meticulous rhetoricians as a perfect element in poetry; it makes poetry more pleasing to the ear by adding to its eloquence and rhythm provided that it is perfectly in line with the semantic structure of the work and that the work needs it in fact. Khaghani is expressly fond of using whole word rhyming schemes in his poetry; few before him are known to have drawn so extensively upon the element of radeef and its various linguistic types. The radeefs in Khaghaniʹs works have usually been selected by the poet based on the general meaning of the work; thus, there is a harmony between the speech and meaning. The radeefs of most of his works are semantically congruous with his poems’ texture and contents and represent their emotional atmosphere. Most of his verses have whole word rhymes the larger part of which consists of verbs in various poetic frameworks, although other parts of speech, such as nouns, postpositions, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, sentences and semi-sentences are also found as radeef in his Diw?n. His radeefs in a single work are sometimes not synonymous, nor do they have similar grammatical structures. The radeef in each verse, along with other elements in the verse, constitutes the literary “array” which, in addition to its rhetorical function, is musical and rouses deeper feelings.
