منابع آشنايي ابن‌خلدون با جهان غربي و برخي ملاحظات روش‌شناسانه

Sources of Ibn Khaldunʹʹs Familiarity with the Western World and Some Methodological Considerations

اصطلاح «جهان غربي» تعبير جديدي است كه به هيچ وجه مورد استفاده ابن‌خلدون نبوده است. ولي اين واقعيت نمي‌گويد كه ابن‌خلدون تصوري از يگانگيِ نسبيِ آنچه ما امروزه جهان غربي مي‌خوانيم نداشته است. پژوهشي در اين باب در جاي ديگر توسط نگارنده‌ سطور نشان داده است كه ابن‌خلدون آنچه را ما امروزه جهان غربي مي‌خوانيم تا حدودي به مثابه جهان يگانه‌اي تصور مي‌كرده و از آن با عنوان « جهان شمالي» ياد مي‌كرده است. در اين مقاله ادعاي مذكور مفروض است، و برپايه‌ آن ملاحظاتي روش‌شناسانه درباره‌ آشنايي وي از اين جهان يگانه روا داشته مي‌شود چراكه اصولاً ابن‌خلدون انديشمندي روش‌حساس است كه وي را از اين جهت، در ميان ساير انديشمندان و نويسندگان جهان پيشامدرن ممتاز كرده است. مقاله‌ حاضر مي‌كوشد تا پس از تحليل كليات روش آشنايي ابن‌خلدون با جهان به‌اصطلاح غربي و دريافت شاخصه‌هاي اصلي آن،‌ منابع اصلي اين آشنايي را از دل متن كتاب تاريخ العبر و مقدمه‌ ارزشمند آن استنتاج كرده و بازشناسي كند.

"The western world" is a new term which has not been used by Ibn Khaldun at all. This does not mean, however, that Ibn Khaldun had no idea of the relative unity of what we call today the western world. Elsewhere, in another study, the author of the present article has shown that Ibn Khaldun thought of what we call today the western world as a united world and mentioned it as "the northern world". The present article presupposes this point; and will use some methodological considerations to discuss his familiarity with this united world, since Ibn Khaldun is a methodology-sensitive thinker; and this distinguishes him from other thinkers and authors of the pre-modern world. In the present article, the author will try to analyze general points concerning the way Ibn Khaldun got familiar with the so-called western world and its indications, and recognize and refer Tarikh al-ʹibar and its valuable introduction as the main sources for such familiarity.
