بدون شك، رفتارهاي مجرمانه ريشه در عوامل گوناگون دارد و الگوهاي بزهكاري تحت تاثير مشكلات اجتماعي، فرهنگي، سياسي و كالبدي هر جامعه قرار مي‌گيرد و دگرگون مي‌شود. ناهنجاري‌هاي اجتماعي يكي از پيچيده‌ترين مسايل بشر امروز است و از پيامدهاي ناگوار آن، ورود ضرر و زيان هنگفت مادي و معنوي و كاهش امنيت در بين افراد جامعه است. درطول چند سال اخير، مطالعه و تحقيق درباره شناسايي و تحليل كانون‌هاي جرم‌خيز شهري اهميت بسيار زيادي يافته و اين رويكرد تا حد بسياري براي كنترل و پيشگيري بزهكاري شهري مفيد و كارآمد بوده است. نكته حايز اهميت اين است كه شهر سنندج به‌دليل داشتن وضعيت خاص و كالبدي و اجتماعي نسبتاً آمار جرم و جنايت بالايي دارد. علاوه‌براين، نشان مي‌دهد كه در بين انواع جرايم ارتكابي در شهر سنندج، سرقت و مواد مخدر بيشترين ميزان را دارد. نتايج اين پژوهش نشان مي‌دهد، مهم‌ترين كانون‌هاي جرم‌خيز شهر سنندج در جرايم مواد مخدر و سرقت، در بافت مركزي شهر بيشتر از بافت‌هاي حاشيه‌اي و پيراموني (شهرك‌هاي تازه تاسيس) است. در اين مقاله سعي شده است بااستفاده از آمار جرايم در شهر سنندج و آناليز در نرم‌افزار GIS و تعيين مكان‌هاي جرم‌خيز و ايجاد كلوني‌هاي جرم، مسايل و مشكلات بروز اين جرايم بررسي شود.
