علم و فرهنگ: تاملي بر مهم‌ترين تحليل‌هاي فرهنگي در جامعه‌شناسي علم و فناوري

Science and Culture: a Look at the most Important Cultural Analyses in Sociology of Science and Technology

در گذشته اكثر جامعه‌شناسان علم و فناوري، تلاش‌هاي اندكي براي وارد شدن به حوزه رسمي جامعه‌شناسي فرهنگ انجام داده و حتي در برابر تحليل‌هاي فرهنگي مقاومت مي‌كردند. جامعه‌شناسان فرهنگ نيز در زمينه فرايند توليد علم و فناوري، تحليل‌هاي ناچيزي ارايه مي‌دادند. اين در حالي است كه ويژگي عمده جامعه‌شناسي معرفت و علم جديد تاكيد بر فرهنگ و تحليل فرهنگي در مطالعات علم و فناوري است. در اين مقاله به بررسي روندي مي‌پردازيم كه جامعه‌شناسان علم و فناوري در آن تحليل‌هاي فرهنگي خود را ارايه داده‌اند. حركت‌هاي اخير براي گسترش قلمرو نظري جامعه‌شناسي علم و فناوري فراتر از نهاد‌هاي رسمي علمي، امكانات و فرصت‌هاي جديدي براي جامعه‌شناسي فرهنگ ايجاد كرده و در حقيقت موجب توجه مضاعف به جايگاه فرهنگ در مطالعات علم و فناوري شده است. برخي از مهم‌ترين اين تلاش‌ها عبارتند از: مطالعات مربوط به «فرهنگ مادي، شهروندي علمي، كلان معرفتي‌ها (فرهنگ در جامعه دانايي) و معرفت‌شناسي‌هاي مدني»

Formerly most sociologists of science and technology did little to research in the formal literature of the Sociology of Culture and may even were resistant to cultural analysis. The sociologists of culture have also written little analysis on the process of knowledge and technology production. This is contrary to the basic characteristic of the new sociology of knowledge and science that is emphasis on culture and cultural analysis in science and technology studies. In this article, we trace and analyze how sociologists of science and technology have performed cultural analysis. More recent moves to extend studies of science and technology “outward” beyond formal scientific settings have created new possibilities for the sociology of culture. They have also attracted more attention to the place of culture in knowledge and technology studies. Of these recent attempts are the studies on materialistic culture, scientific citizenship, macro- epistemics (culture in knowledge society), and finally civic epistemologies.
