Aero and space separation: a new approach in B.S aerospace engineering curriculum

رشد روز افزون فناوريها و فعاليتهاي فضايي در تمام كشورها موجب افزايش تقاضا در بازار نيروي كار مهندسي هوافضا با تخصص فضايي شده است. با گذشت بيش از دو دهه از آخرين بازنگري در برنامه درسي مهندسي هوافضا، لازم است با توجه به تحول فناوري بازنگري دوباره صورت گيرد. برنامه درسي فعلي بر حوزه هوايي متمركز است و در آن به حوزه فضايي چندان توجه نشده است. در اين مقاله با بررسي نقاط ضعف و قوت برنامه درسي موجود و مطالعه برنامه درسي مهندسي هوافضا در تعدادي از دانشگاههاي معتبر آمريكا و همچنين، توجه به استانداردهاي آموزشي جديد، برنامه آموزشي نويني پيشنهاد شده است كه به دانشجويان امكان انتخاب تخصص هوايي يا فضايي را درون يك برنامه خواهد داد. دانش آموخته هر تخصص به مدرك كارشناسي مهندسي هوافضا نايل خواهد شد. تغيير برنامه درسي طيف گسترده‌اي را شامل مي‌شود كه از دروس پايه، اصلي و مياني تا دروس اختياري تخصصي، آزمايشگاهها و كارگاهها و نحوه اجراي آنها را در برمي گيرد

The aerospace engineering undergraduate educational program in the country has undergone some kind of stagnation during the past twenty years. This has caused a mismatch between this education and the up-to-date world’s technology. In addition the existing program does not satisfy the industrial and social needs of the country in this era. In this article, the discussions that established a definitive need for a dual track system for aerospace engineering students are detailed. The process that led to the implementation of a revised curriculum is described. To begin the process of changing the aerospace engineering curriculum to better serve the needs of undergraduates interested in a greater emphasis on space-related courses, an internet study of the published curricula of various institutions is conducted. Changes to courses ranging from introductory, intermediate and upper division and technical electives, and laboratory courses are described. Development of additional technical elective and graduate courses is discussed. The development courses and curricula that support this new space option are also explained.
