Kant, Foucault and the Critical Tradition

روشنگري قرن هجدهم يكي از مهم‌ترين بنيادهاي فرهنگ مدرن است و مي‌توان فلسفه معاصر غرب را ديالكتيك و گفت‌وگوي روشنگري و جريان‌هاي منتقد آن دانست. گرچه سابقه مضامين فكري روشنگري را در اواخر قرون وسطي و حتي قبل از آن ريشه يابي كرده‌اند، براي نخستين بار در جستار روشنگري چيست؟ (و البته به نحو تلويحي در نقد‌هاي سه‌گانه و آثار سياسي‌) كانت است كه روشنگري و وضع مدرن صورت‌بندي فلسفي خود را مي‌يابد. ميشل فوكو، فيلسوف پست مدرن فرانسوي در باب رساله روشنگري كانت، سه جستار منتشر‌ كرده كه نشانگر نوعي چرخش قابل ملاحظه در نگاه او به روشنگري است؛ نقد چيست؟(1978) كانت، روشنگري و انقلاب (1983) و روشنگري چيست؟(1984). اين مقاله كوشيده تا از راه تحليل و مقايسه چيستي روشنگري نزد كانت و فوكو به تبيين اين چرخش بپردازد. فوكو روشنگري به مثابه يك دوره با اصول و مباني جهان شمول را نفي كرده ، اما روشنگري به مثابه تداوم سنت انتقادي و هستي‌شناسيِ زمانِ حال (به عنوان يكي از جريان‌هاي مهم سنت فلسفي غرب) را مي‌پذيرد.

The eighteenth century enlightenment is one of the most important foundations of the modern culture and the contemporary Western philosophy can be regarded as a dialogue between the Enlightenment and its critics. Although the roots of the Enlightenment can be traced to the Late Middle Ages and even before, but it is in Kant’s “What is Enlightenment?” (and implicitly in his critical trilogy and political works) that the Enlightenment and the modern situation are formulated philosophically. Foucault , French postmodern philosopher, has written three essays on kantʹs “What is Enlightenment?” They are as follows: “What is Critique?” (1978), “Kant on Enlightenment and Revolution” (1983), and “What is Enlightenment?” (1984). These works indicate a considerable shift in his approach to the Enlightenment. This essay tries to explain this shift by analyzing and comparing Kant’s and Foucault’s views of the Enlightenment. For Foucault, the Enlightenment is not a historical period which has its own general principles but is a continuation of the critical tradition, philosophical ethos and ontology of the present and, as such, has been one of the main currents of Western philosophy from Kant until the present time.
