در سال‌هاي اخير در حوزه نقد ادبي مكتب هاي مختلفي به‌وجود آمده و ناقدان بسياري، نظريه هاي نقدي و ادبي خود را بر مبناي اين مكتب ها ارايه نموده‌اند؛ از جمله اين گرايش‌هاي نقدي، نقد ساختارگرايي (Structuralism) در حوزه ادبيات و زبان‌شناسي است كه پيدايش آن به فرماليسم و مكتب پراگ و نيوفرماليسم برمي‌گردد. نقد ساختارگرايانه شيوه‌اي است نقدي كه در آن پديده‌هاي جزيي در ارتباط با يك كل بررسي مي‌شوند و ناقد ساختار‌گرا بين مباحث سنتي و يافته‌هاي زبان‌شناسي هماهنگي ايجاد مي‌كند. اين مكتب بيشتر مبتني بر ديد همزماني (Synchronique) است و به ارتباط ميان اجزا و پديده‌ها در يك زمان معين مي‌پردازد، هر چند از ديد در زماني (Diachronic) نيز غافل نيست. بعدها ساختارگرايي كم‌كم از جايگاه اصلي خود يعني نقد متون ادبي فراتر رفت و به نوعي روش و متدولوژي تبديل شد كه در بسياري از دانش‌ها با توجه به تيوري ارتباطات، (Communication theory) مي‌تواند كاربرد داشته باشد.
