Definition of medical ethics: dos and don’ts

معضلات اخلاقي حاصل از پيشرفت‌هاي تشخيصي و درماني نوين در علم پزشكي، ضرورت پرداختن به اخلاق پزشكي را صد چندان كرده است. اخلاق پزشكي يك «علم» است، از اين‌رو، با روش‌ و معيار علمي سروكار دارد. لازمه‌ي محقق شدن اهداف هر علم تعريف دقيق و رفع ابهامات پيرامون آن است. با وجود تعريف‌هاي مختلف ارايه شده در ارتباط با علم اخلاق پزشكي هنوز پاره‌اي از مسايل هم‌چنان در هاله‌اي از ابهام مانده است. بخش مهمي از دانش ما، پاسخ به چيستي‌هاست و اين پاسخ چيزي جز تعريف نيست. تعاريف، قسمت عمده‌‌ي ادراكات ما را شامل مي‌شوند و نمي‌توان از به‌كارگيري آن خودداري كرد. اين مقاله‌ي مروري حاصل يك پژوهش توصيفي است. براي جمع‌آوري اطلاعات از مطالعه‌ي كتب معتبر و جست‌وجو در منابع اينترنتي و مقالات مرتبط خارجي استفاده شد. اين نوشتار ضمن تاكيد بر لزوم تبيين تعريف علم و ويژگي‌هاي تعريف منطقي، برخي از تعاريف علم اخلاق پزشكي را ارزيابي كرده و با اشاره به نقاط ضعف موجود در آن‌ها، ضرورت ارايه‌ي تعريف منطقي از اين علم و ملاحظات لازم را متذكر مي‌شود.

Moral dilemmas caused by modern diagnostic and therapeutic advances in medical science have increased the need to address medical ethics a hundredfold. Medical ethics is a "science", so the method needs scientific work. In order to achieve the objectives of any science, we need to define and resolve the ambiguities surrounding it. Notwithstanding the definitions presented in conjunction with the science of medical ethics, still some issues remain unclear about it. An important part of our knowledge consists of the answers to what things are, and that is nothing but definitions. Definitions comprise the bulk of our perceptions and therefore need to be employed. This review article is the result of a descriptive study. The data were collected through studying credible textbooks and searching internet resources and related articles. While emphasizing the need to clarify the definition of science and characteristics of logical definition, this paper evaluates some of the definitions of medical ethics and by showing their weak points, notes that there is a need for a logical definition of this science and the necessary considerations
