Effect of Lavandula officinalis methanolic extract on PTZ-induced epilepsy in male wistar rats Lavandula officinalis is one of the herbal plants that is know and different cure it has effects in base of current information in tradition medicine and vernacular knowledge. Including of that is soporific effect.In present research, the extract effect of this plant have investigated on the seizure that arising pentilentetrazole (PTZ) in male wistar rats. Research based on intracerebroventricular injection of 250، 500، 1000، (µg ) methanolic extract of Lavandula officinalis (in volum of 1 µlittre). Control group has been injected by 1 µlittre of saline then to induce seizure in all experimental groups، 80 mg/kg of pentilentetrazol (PTZ) intraperitonealy was used. After each PTZ injection the convulsive behavior was observed for 20 min. Result of this research showed that 250، 500، 1000µg of Lavandula officinalis methanolic extract increase initiation time of first stage of convulsion significantly. Also 250، 500 µg of extract delayed initiation time of second stage of convulsive behavior significantly. None of the above doses of extract showed significant different in comparison with control group. Result of this research indicate that methanolic extract of Lavandula officinalis has anticonvulsive effects dose dependently.
