دگرگوني نظام بين الملل پس از جنگ سرد به طور كلي مفهوم امنيت ملي را دچار دگرگوني نمود. از جمله مهمترين مشخصه هاي اين دگرگوني، نياز به تعيين جايگاه امنيت زيست محيطي در رويكرد امنيت ملي است. امنيت زيست محيطي با تهديداتي سروكار دارد كه نه تنها نتيجه غيرعمدي فعاليت هاي اجتماعي و اقتصادي است بلكه در مقايسه با تهديدات نظامي خيلي كند پيش مي رود، بنابر اين افق هاي زماني براي برنامه ريزي سياسي لازم به منظور مقابله با آن بي نهايت گسترده است. اين مقاله با روش تحليل محتوا ضمن بررسي مفهوم امنيت ملي و امنيت زيست محيطي به بررسي تفاوت ديدگاه ها نسبت به امنيت زيست محيطي در دوران كنوني و دوران نظام دو قطبي در جهان مي پردازد. نتايج حاصله از اين پژوهش نشان دهنده آن است كه تخريب عوامل زيست محيطي نتيجه نيروهاي اقتصادي و اجتماعي غير شخصي است و تهديدات حاصله از آن به يك دولت دشمن و يا موجوديت سياسي مستقل مربوط نمي شود و راه حل هاي مشاركتي مي طلبد.
