مقايسه نگراني درباره تصوير بدني و حرمت خود بين نوجوانان مبتلا به اسكوليوز بدون بريس، تحت درمان بريس و نوجوانان عادي

Comparing body image concern and self-esteem of adolescents with scoliosis with and without brace treatment and normal adolescents

انحراف جانبي ستون فقرات يك اختلال عضلاني استخواني است كه ستون فقرات در صفحه پيشاني دچار انحنا مي شود. هدف پژوهش حاضر مقايسه نگراني درباره تصوير بدني و حرمت خود بين نوجوانان مبتلا به اختلال اسكوليوز بدون بريس، تحت درمان بريس و نوجوانان عادي بود. تعداد 237 نوجوان (121 دختر، 116 پسر) 12 تا 18 ساله در شهر تهران در سه گروه انتخاب شدند: مبتلا به اسكوليوز كه براي مدت حداقل سه ماه از بريس استفاده مي كردند؛ نوجواناني كه مبتلا به اسكوليوز بودند ولي از بريس استفاده نمي كردند و گروه نوجوانان عادي كه مبتلا به اسكوليوز نبودند. شركت كنندگان مقياس حرمت خود روزنبرگ (RSES) و پرسشنامه نگراني از تصوير بدني (BICI) را تكميل كردند. نتايج نشان داد كه نوجوانان مبتلا به اسكوليوز حرمت خود پايين تري نسبت به نوجوانان عادي داشتند. نوجواناني كه مبتلا به اسكوليوز بودند و از بريس استفاده مي كردند نسبت به دو گروه ديگر نگراني بيشتري را نسبت به تصوير بدني خود ابراز كردند. در مولفه نگراني نسبت به تصوير بدني، تفاوت معنادار بين نوجوانان عادي و نوجوانان مبتلا به اسكوليوز كه از بريس استفاده نمي كردند يافت نشد. تفاوت هاي جنسي در مولفه حرمت خود نشان گر اين بود كه به طور كلي دختران نسبت به پسران حرمت خود پايين تري را گزارش كردند. مي توان چنين نتيجه گرفت كه اختلال اسكوليوز، حرمت خود و درمان توسط بريس، نگراني نسبت به تصوير بدني را بيش از ساير مولفه ها تحت تاثير منفي روانشناختي قرار مي دهد. با توجه به اهميت پيشگيري و درمان اسكوليوز توسط بريس و تاثيرات روانشناختي استفاده از آن، پيشنهاد مي شود كه پژوهشگران به تدوين بسته هاي مداخله اي/ آموزشي جهت ارايه حمايت هاي روانشناختي به نوجوانان مبتلا به اين اختلال بپردازند.

The present study aimed to compare body image concern and self-esteem of adolescents with scoliosis with and without brace treatment and normal adolescents. A total of 237 adolescents (121 girls, 116 boys) aged 12 to 18 years were assigned into three groups: Adolescents with scoliosis who were under full time brace treatment for at least three months; adolescents with scoliosis who were not under brace treatment; and a group of normal adolescents. All participants were matched for sex and age. Participants completed two questionnaires measuring self-esteem: Rosenbergʹs Self-esteem Scale (RSES) and Body Image Concern Inventory (BICI). Results showed that overall, adolescents suffering from scoliosis reported lower scores in self-esteem compared to normal adolescents and adolescents who were using brace reported significantly greater body image concern compared to the other groups. In the latter measure, there was no significant difference between normal adolescents and adolescents with scoliosis who were not under brace treatment. Sex differences in scores of self-esteem indicate that girls reported significantly lower self-esteem compared to boys. There were no significant sex differences in scores of body image concern. It is concluded that psychological factors play an important role in scoliosis and results are discussed in terms of the importance of brace wear in the prevention and treatment of scoliosis and the possible psychological effects this treatment may have on patients. In the light of the results of the present study it is suggested that future research should concentrate on designing psycho-educational intervention packages via more qualitative data gathering methods in order to provide psychological support for adolescent suffering from scoliosis.
