Conformity or Conflict? An Analysis of Recent Citation Behavior Theories

هدف: مرور مهم‌ترین نظریه­ها و رهیافت­های نظری در حوزه رفتار استنادی برای شناسایی همگونی و تعارض میان آنها. روش/ رویكرد پژوهش: بررسی متون و پژوهش‌ها و نظریه­های حوزه رفتار استنادی. یافته­ها: رویكردهای مختلف در تبیین رفتارهای استنادی نویسندگان، به دو نظریه هنجاری و ساختار اجتماعی رفتار استنادی منجر شده است. رویكردهای نوین سه عامل پاداش و تنبیه، تمایل به درستكاری، و تمایل به همذات‌پنداری با نویسندگان برجسته را عوامل پیش­بینی­كننده و انگیزه رفتار استنادی شناخته‌اند. نتیجه­گیری: هرچند رویكردهای نوین مفاهیمی متفاوت با انگیزه‌های خاص را مطرح می‌سازند، اما به‌طور ضمنی اعتبار دو نظریه هنجاری و ساختار اجتماعی رفتار استنادی را تأیید می­كنند.

Purpose: Compares theories and approaches in the field of citation behavior. Methodology: Review of the literature in the field of citation behavior. Findings: Analysts consider motivations and behaviors in different ways. Merton believes scholars cite only when it is logical, whereas Cronin claims that citation is not separate from contexts and backgrounds. Different approaches have led to the formation of two theories: 1) Normative Theory of Citation Behavior and, 2) Social Constructive Citation Behavior Theory. Recent research has revealed other motivations including hope for reward and threat of punishment, tendency to observe principles of ethics and integrity, and to identifying self with distinguished authors.
