The "Cooriginality of Religion and Civilization"; the Foundation of Sayyed Hossein Nasrʹʹs Civilizational Ideas

اين نوشتار گزارشي از انگاره‌هاي تمدن‌شناسانه سيدحسين نصر در كلي‌ترين برش آن و بدون لحاظ تمدني خاص است. درعين‌حال، امكان‌سنجي ارجاع اين انگاره‌ها به انگاره يا نظريه‌اي مركزي به نام همزادي دين و تمدن را عهده‌دار است. در اين راستا، پس از معلوم‌كردن جايگاه تمدن در حيات بشر از ديدگاه نصر، نظريه كلان تمدن‌شناسانه وي، يعني همزادي دين و تمدن را معرفي مي‌كند و سپس به برخي نتايج حاصل از اين نظريه درباره معناي حضور در يك تمدن و تعلق به آن، نيروي پيش‌برنده تمدن، چگونگي تاسيس و احياي تمدن‌ها، تعريف تمدن و ملايمت آن با نظريه همزادي، تقسيم تمدن‌ها و ارتباطات بيناتمدني نيز مي‌پردازد. ضمن آنكه برخي جنبه‌هاي مهم ديگر مانند بررسي جلوه‌هاي متكثر درون يك تمدن را نيز بررسي مي‌كند. در نهايت، مشخص شده است كه به‌رغم امكان ارجاع نگاه‌هاي تمدن‌شناسانه وي به مدعاي همزادي دين و تمدن، اين مدعا ابهام‌هايي دارد كه اخذ برخي نتايج و تعميم‌ها از نظريه را دچار مشكل مي‌سازد.

This paper reviews the civilizational ideas of Sayyed Hossein Nasr in its most general form, without considering any particular civilization. However, the paper is concerned with evaluating the possibility of referring these ideas to a central idea I call "cooriginality of religion and civilization". Determining the place of civilization in human life from Nasrʹs viewpoint, I introduce his general civilizational theory, that is, cooriginality of religion and civilization, and then I deal with some outcomes of this theory with respect to the meaning of presence in, and belonging to, a civilization, the force leading a civilization forwards, the way civilizations are founded and revived, the definition of civilization and its compatibility of the theory of cooriginality, the division of civilizations, and inter-civilizational relations. Moreover, some other significant aspects such as plural manifestations within a civilization are also considered. Finally, I show that while we can refer Nasrʹs civilizational ideas to the cooriginality claim, there are ambiguities in this claim making troubles for some outcomes and generalizations.
