بررسي دو اثر در كنار هم، اغلب مي‌تواند زمينه درك بيش‌تر آن‌ها را فراهم كند. به‌ويژه كه از يك آبشخور باشند ولي متفاوت جلوه كنند. به نظر نويسنده دو اثر «بوف كور» (هدايت) و «ال الا»(سرانو) در عين بهره‌مندي از يك جلوه (نسبتاً) مشترك، طوري به زاويه خويش مي‌روند كه گويي دو مقوله جدا از هم هستند! «بوف كور» بيش‌تر شرح آنچه گذشت است، ولي «ال الا» منجر به اتفاق و اتحاد روحي و معرفتي مي‌شود. با يكي انفراد و افتراق، با يكي اتحاد و يكي شدن! پيچيدگي اين آثار در وصف شخصيت‌ها و فضا باعث شد با نگاهي به اصل روايت با منطق مورد نظر گريماس پرداخته شود تا ضمن تشريح بيش‌تر روشن شود آيا در دل چنين آثاري(كه مملو از تكرار و ابهام است) مي‌توان به دنبال نظام خاصي بود؟ و اينكه وجود جلوه‌هاي مختلف يك فرد در عين تضاد چه اندازه مي‌تواند به اتحاد و يكي شدن نزديك شود؟
