Surgical Complications of Kidney Transplantation In Diabetic Patients VS Non Diabetic Recepients

1108 renal transplantations were done in Baghiyatallah Hospital from living donors between 1992-2001. 95 patients had pre transplant diabetes mellitus (study group) and 1013 patients were non diabetic (control group). The mean follow up period was 27.3 months. Surgical complications included: (vascular 17, Ureteral 9, wound infection 7 and lymphoceles 10) occured in 11 of the diabetic recipients (11.07%) and 32 (3.15%) of the non-diabetic group and this difference was significant (P <0.001). In This Study Surgical complications were more common in diabetic recipients but this complications can be managed and donʹt affect the patients or graft survival.
