AUA Symptom Score Evaluation In Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia,

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign tumor in men. The management of BPH are: Observation all medical minimally invasive and non invasive treatments. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the invasive methods of chaise. The aim of this study was to evaluate the American Urological Association Symptom Score (AUA-SS) of the disease before and 3 months after TURP. In six months evalution (from Jan to Jun 2001) we Tested 60 patients before and 3 months after operation. The mean AUA-SS decreased from 21.6 to 9.9 after TURP (54%). This improvement was significant (p.value = 1%). The maximum decrease was due to obstructive symptoms. Irritative symptoms had less score. Therefore TURP operation is effective in improving clinical symptoms, especially obstructive symptoms of BPH.
