Acute Appendicitis In (15-70 Patients) During 1999-2001

Acute appendicitis is a surgical emergency and should be operated as soon as possible. Our exprience suggests for fluctuation rates of appendicitis in various months. We performed this study to define its frequency in 1999-2001. Affected patients aged 15-70 year old were enrolled in this study and those younger than 15 or older than 70, who could not tolerate fasting, were excluded, age, sex, and number of operated patients were considered. The total number of documented cases were approximately equal to 424, 425 and 407 for the three years 1999, 2000, and 2001 respectively. It was a more often in men than women. M/FM =1.2:1 and 110/1000000 patients. In the monthes of Moharram and Shavval. It was most and in Ramadan was least frequent. There was no significant difference in the number of patient among other months. Frequency of acute appendicitis decreased in Ramadan significantly, most likely due to fasting and dietary alterations.
