يكي از مباحث اختلافي ميان انديشمندان فقه و حقوق عقد معلق و آثار اقسام تعليق است. در اين بين، تعليق مهريه به دليل اختلاف در ماهيت و نوع ارتباط آن با عقد نكاح و بطلان نكاح معلق، مي‌تواند محل بحث و تأمل باشد كه در آثار علمي اين مورد بررسي نشده ‌است. جايگاه متفاوت مهريه در نكاح موقت و دائم، آثار مختلف تعليق در انشاء و تعليق در منشأ، وضعيت مهريه‌ي معلق در موارد انحلال نكاح، تحقق يا عدم تحقق معلق‌عليه قبل يا بعد از وقوع نزديكي و محاسبه به نرخ روز مهريه‌ي معلق مباحثي هستند كه در اين پژوهش با روش توصيفي و تحليلي بررسي شده‌‌اند. به اجمال مي‌توان گفت، تعليق مهريه به طور مطلق نكاح موقت را باطل مي‌كند، اما تعليق مهريه در نكاح دائم به دليل ماهيت قراردادي و مستقل مهريه از نكاح، ممكن است؛ هر چند تعليق در انشاء و منشأ آثار متفاوت دارد.
