Theory of the Continuity or Discontinuity of the Revelation of the Sūras of the Qur’an

كیفیت نزول آیات سوره‌ها را می‌توان از جهات گوناگون، از جمله این كه آیا میان نزول آیات هر سوره، آیاتی از سوره‌های دیگر فاصله انداخته است یا نه، بررسی كرد. گروهی اعتقاد دارند كه آیات سوره‌ها به‌صورت آشفته و بدون نظم خاصی نازل شده و بعدها به راهنمایی پیامبر (ص) یا به اجتهاد صحابه نظم یافته است. لیكن گروهی دیگر با برداشت از قرآن و برخی از روایات، تصریح دارند اصل در نزول، «نزول پیوستۀ سوره» بوده است. بدین صورت كه نزول هر سوره، نظمی طبیعی داشته است؛ با بسمله آغاز می‌شد و نزول آیات (چه به صورت تدریجی نازل شده باشند و چه به صورت دفعی) پشت سر هم ادامه می‎یافت تا اینكه با نزول بسملۀ جدید، پایانِ سورۀ قبل و شروع سورۀ جدید مشخص می‌شد. همۀ مردم عصر نزول، بر اساس نزول پیوستۀ هر سوره‌ درمی‌یافتند كه محدودۀ سوره‌ها از آغاز تا انجام آن چه بوده است. مقالۀ حاضر با روش تحلیل محتوا در مقام بررسی دلایلی است كه هر یك از گروه‌ها برای اثبات مدعای خویش از آن بهره گرفته¬اند و در نهایت نظریۀ گروه دوم تأیید و تقویت شده است.

The quality of the revelation of the Sūras can be studied from various aspects, including whether or not some verses have made intervals between the revelations of the verses of each Sūra. Some believe that the verses of the Sūras have been revealed in a dispersed way and without a specific order and later on have been organized with the guidance of the Prophet (S.A.W.) or personal judgment of his companions (ṣaḥāba). However, another group, with an impression from the Qur’an and traditions, assert that the revelation has principally been based on the “continuous revelation of the Sūras”; that is, the revelation of every Sūra has enjoyed a natural order; it has started with bismi Allāh and the revelation of the verses has successively continued (either gradually or instantaneously) until a new bismi Allāh was revealed, specifying the beginning of a new verse and ending of the previous one. All the people of the time of Revelation would find out what the limit of the Sūras had been from the beginning to the end on the basis of the continuous revelation of each Sūra.
