تعیین ترتیب زمانی نزول قرآن یا تاریخ گذاری آن عبارت از این است كه به كمك روایات مختلف مكّی و مدنی، اسباب نزول، ترتیب نزول، ناسخ و منسوخ، تاریخ[زندگی] پیامبر(ص) و بهره گیری ازتلویحات یا تصریحاتی كه در قرآن راجع به رویدادهای زمانمند تاریخ رسالت آن حضرت(ص) وجود دارد؛ زمان و ترتیب تاریخی هر یك از واحدهای نزول قرآن، شناسایی و معین گردد. ملاحویش آل غازی در «بیان المعانی علی حسب ترتیب النزول» با توجه به روش تفسیری و صبغه تاریخی خود، بیش ترین تلاش را در این مورد با استفاده از آیات قرآن، فهرست های ترتیب نزول و منابع روایی انجام داده است. تحلیل و بررسی رویكرد خاص مفسر نسبت به تاریخ گذاری قران از مهم ترین اهداف این نوشتار است. او با اعتقاد به اصول و مبانی خاص خود كه از باورهایش در زمینه علوم قرآنی و مباحث تاریخی به دست آمده، روش هایی را در تاریخ گذاری قرآن به كار می گیرد و به نتایج جدیدی پیرامون زمان وقوع و چگونگی حوادث تاریخ صدر اسلام دست یافته است. مهم ترین شیوه های او را می توان تحت عناوین: طبقه بندی و اوّلویت بندی منابع، مرتب كردن سوره ها بر مبنای آیات آغازین آن ها، تكیه بر مستندات تاریخی، استناد به روایات اسباب نزول آیات، دقت در مراحل تاریخی تشریع احكام شرعی و دقت در زمان نزول آیات متشابه در یك موضوع خاص، بیان و تحلیل كرد.

Believing in his special principles and foundations, obtained from his believes in the field of Quranic Sciences and historical topics,he applied methods in Quran dateline and achieved new results about the event time and state of the events of early Islamic history.We can express and analyze his most important methods under these heading: Classification and prioritization of resources, Reordering the Surahs based on their initial verses, Relying on historical documents, Citing to the traditions of revelation verses reasons,Paying attention to historical stages of Canonization of religious orders and Paying attention in revelation time of allegorical verses in a special topic.
