Descriptive Semantics of the Word "Azm" (determination) in the Holy Qurʼan

عزم از واژگان كلیدی قرآن كریم است.میزان اثرگذاری "عزمِ قرآنی" بر سرنوشت انسان،آن را به یك واژه اساسی تبدیل كرده است.پژوهش حاضر، واژه "عزم" را از نگاه معناشناسی ساخت‌گرا و براساس روابط هم‌نشینی و جانشینی بررسی می‌‌كند.با توجه به آیات "عزم"، دو واژه "امر" و "صبر" پربسامدترین هم‌نشین "عزم" است. واژگان "توكل"، "طلاق"، "عقده‌ النكاح"، "شاورهم"، "عهدنا"و "نسیان" دیگر همنشین‌‌های عزم است كه هر كدام فقط یك‌بار با این واژه هم‌نشینی داشته‌اند. در میان همنشین‌های عزم، صبر جایگاه ویژه‌ای دارد، تا آنجا كه برخی این دو را مترادف دانسته‌اند. سیاق هم‌نشینی عهد با عزم نیز بر جایگاه مقدماتی عهد الهی نسبت به"عزم قرآنی" دلالت دارد. بررسی همنشین‌های عزم نشان می‌‌دهد، در چارچوب قواعد هم‌نشینی و جانشینی واژه مناسبی برای جانشینی "عزم" وجود ندارد. با توجه به همنشین‌های واژه "عزم"، چهار مؤلفة معنایی برای آن مشخص شد. تعریف "عزمِ قرآنی"، بر اساس مؤلفه‌های معنایی آن چنین است: در فرهنگ قرآن، "عزم"، ارادة حكیمانة قاطع، بر بندگی خداوند متعال است. انسان مؤمن با كسب و حفظ چنین اراده‌ای بر عهد الهی استوار و از وسوسه نفس و شیطان در امان خواهد بود.

"Azm" (determination) is one of the key words of The Holy Qurʼan. The extent of its influence on the destiny of human beings has turned it into an essential word. This study analyses the meaning of the word "Azm" (determination) by studying itʹs paradigmatically and syntagmatic relationships based on structuralistic semantics. Considering the verses in which the word "Azm" has occurred, the words "Amr" (matter)" and "Ṣabr (patience)" are the two most frequent collocations of the afore mentioned word. Otherwise the words "Tawakkul" (reliance), "Ṭalaq" (divorce)", "Aqdat-a-nnikāḥ" (the tie of marriage)", "Shawir-hum" (consult them), "Ahdina" (our covenant)" and "Nisyān" (forgetting) are other collocations for the word with only one occurrence. Among these words, the word "Ṣabr" is of great significance as to which some consider the two as synonymous. The collocation of the word "Ahd" with "Azm" indicates the priority status of the God’s covenant to determination. Studying the paradagmital relations of the word shows that there is not any suitable substitution for this word in the Qurʹan. According to this study, four semantic components can be drawn from the occurrence of the word "Azm" in the Qurʹan i.e. the wise conclusive will to serve the exalted God. The believer obtaining such a will and maintaining it would keep his covenant with Allah and will be safeguarded from the worldly and satanic temptations.
