اگرچه بررسي كارنامه تاريخ نگاري مسكويه منحصر در كتاب تجارب الامم نيست، مي توان گفت شاكله اصلي تاريخ نگاري وي را در بر مي گيرد. مسكويه مورخ برجسته سده هاي چهارم و پنجم هجري از بنيان گذاران تاريخ نگاري انتقادي به شمار مي رود كه با تاليف آثار خود نگرشي خاص را در تاريخ نگاري اعمال كرده است. شيوه اي كه او در تاريخ نگاري استفاده كرده در روند تكوين افق ها و كليت تاريخ نگاري تاثيري بسزا بر جاي گذاشته است. موضوع اصلي اين نوشتار شناسايي منابع اطلاعات تاريخ نگاري مسكويه در تجارب الامم است. استفاده از متون منابع ادبي و تاريخي ايران باستان، به كار گرفتن متون تاريخ نگاري اسلامي و استفاده از تحقيقات ميداني چون فراگرفتن اخبار و شواهد تاريخي از شاهدان و ناظران قضايا و تامل در رويدادهاي زمانه، آن هم در ارتباط با تحولات و رخدادهاي دوره هاي تاريخي، از جمله محورهاي اصلي منابع و شيوه هاي ابن مسكويه در كسب اخبار و معرفت تاريخي براي نوشتن تاريخ بوده كه وي را ميراث دار سنت تاريخ نگاري ايراني و اسلامي ساخته است.

The use of literary and historical sources of ancient Iran، the use of Islamic historiography texts، and the use of field research، such as the acquisition of historical news and evidence from witnesses and observers of events and reflection on events of the time، also in connection with the developments and events of historical periods ، Is one of the main axes of the sources and practices used by Ebn-E- Moskuya in gaining historical news and historical knowledge for writing history that has led him to be inherited from the tradition of Iranian and Islamic historiography.
