نگاهي به مجادلات قلمي هنري مارتين و عالمان عصر قاجار دربارۀ نبوت خاصّه

Polemics of Henry Martyn and the Iranian Muslim Clergymen on the Particular Prophethood in Qajar Period

در اين مقاله زندگي، تحصيلات و فعاليتهاي تبليغي هنري مارتين، كشيش و مبلّغ انگليسي كه در اوايل عصر قاجار به منظور تبليغ آيين پروتستان به ايران آمد، مورد تحقيق و بررسي قرار گرفته است. يكي از اهداف مارتين از سفر به ايران تصحيح و نشر ترجمۀ عهد جديد بود كه پيش از اين، يعني از آغاز اقامتش در هند بدان دست زده بود. مارتين پس از ورود به ايران با برپايي جلسات مناظره با علما، تبليغ در ميان مردم كوچه و بازار، و نگارش رساله هايي در ردّ نبوّت خاصّه و اعجاز قرآن، سخت مي كوشيد تا ايرانيان را به مسيّحيت درآورد. اين اقدامات با واكنش علما، مردم و حكومت قاجار مواجه شد و علماي مسلمان اين دوره با نگارش جوابيّه در مقام پاسخگويي به شبهات و رديّه هاي مارتين برآمدند.

This article surveys the life, studies and activities of Henry Martyn, the British priest and missionary who came to Iran, in order to promote the Protestantism in early Qajar period. Martyn wanted to edit and publish the New Testament in Persian and it was one of the most important goals of his travel which he had started since he was in India. In Iran, Martyn established meetings, in which he debated with Muslim clergymen. He promoted his beliefs to common people and wrote treatises against the Islamic doctrines such as particular prophet hood and inimitability of the Quran. He worked hard to convert Iranians into Christianity. In return, the Muslim clergymen, Qajar government and the common people reacted against his activities and wrote apologetics in order to reply to Martyn's ideas.
