پيدايش قدرت‌هاي نوظهور از مشخصه‌هاي مهم چشم‌انداز نظام بين‌الملل معاصراست. اين قدرت‌ها كه اغلب در قالب بريكس گروه‌بندي شده‌اند، بازتاب تحولات دوران‌ساز نظام بين‌الملل بوده و بر سرشت و سرنوشت آن اثر تعيين‌كننده‌اي بر جاي نهاده‌اند. اشاره به قدرت اقتصادي گروه بريكس (برزيل، روسيه، هند، چين و آفريقاي جنوبي) توجهي است به اهميت فزايندۀ قدرت‌هاي نوظهور در دوراني كه جايگزيني براي اقتصاد ليبرال غرب است. با اين تفاسير، در پاسخ به پرسش اساسي اين پژوهش، اينكه چگونه اتحاد اقتصادي قدرت‌هاي نوظهور بريكس تلاشي به‌منظور ايجاد بديلي براي اقتصاد ليبرال غرب و ارتقاي جايگاه آنها در نظام بين‌الملل محسوب مي‌شود؟ و آيا اين گروه تأثير محوري بر معادلات سياسي و اقتصادي نظام بين‌الملل بر جاي خواهد گذاشت؟ مقالۀ حاضر با بهره‌گيري از روش تبييني قدرت اقتصادي بريكس را در ساختار نوين نظام بين‌الملل به‌رغم چالش‌هاي ملي، منطقه‌اي و بين‌المللي موجود مثبت ارزيابي مي‌كند و بر اين اعتقاد است كه بريكس در چگونگي شكل‌دهي به نظم بين‌المللي به‌عنوان بديل قدرت اقتصادي ليبرال غرب، نقش‌آفريني مي‌كند.
