عامل اسلام با نمودهاي اخلاقي در جاهليت

Interaction of Islam with the Ethical Outward Aspects in Pre-Islamic Period (Jāhiliyya)

با اين كه هميشه از فرهنگ عرب قبل از اسلام به عنوان فرهنگ جاهلي ياد مي شود، اما طبيعي است كه تمامي سنت ها و نظام هاي اخلاقي و اجتماعي عرب را سنت هاي بد و نكوهيده، يا اخلاق مكروه و مذموم تشكيل نمي‌داده است؛ كه اگر چنين بود آنان هرگز نمي‌توانستند به حيات خود ادامه دهند، ولي بدون ترديد، در غالب شئون زندگي آنها، فرهنگ غلط و آداب و عادت هاي ناپسند جلوه بيشتري داشته است. ما در قرآن مجيد با بسياري از آرمان‌هاي اخلاقي برخورد مي‌كنيم كه به شكلي در ميان عرب وجود داشت، فضيلت‌هايي چون سخاوت، شجاعت، صبر، وفا و ... با اين ويژگي كه اسلام اين فضايل را به آن صورتي كه در ميان عرب بدوي يافت مي‌شد، احيا نكرد و باز نياورد؛ بلكه در اخذ و قبول اين فضايل و جذب آنها در نظام تعاليم اخلاقي خود، آنها را تهذيب و نوسازي كرده، نيرو و انرژي را در مسير جديدي كه آماده ساخته بوده به جريان انداخت. توجه ما در اين مقاله، بيشتر به شرح خصلت ها و فضايل برجسته عرب جاهلي معطوف خواهد بود كه در اسلام پذيرفته و بهسازي شده است.

Although the pre-Islamic Arab culture is always recalled as the jāhilī (pagan) culture, naturally not all traditions and socio-ethical systems of the Arabs consisted of evil and blameworthy traditions or objectionable and detestable morality; as, were it so, they were never able to survive. Undoubtedly, however, the wrong culture and indecent habits prevailed more strikingly in most of their lifestyles. We encounter many ethical ideals in the Holy Qur'an that existed among the Arabs in some form or another, including such virtues as generosity, bravery, forbearance, loyalty, etc.; however, characteristically, the Qur'an did not revive and bring back these virtues the way they existed among the Bedouin Arabs; rather, in its adoption and acceptance of these virtues, the Qur'an edified and reconstructed them and set their power and vitality in a new direction that it had provided. My attention in this article is more focused on description of the outstanding traits and virtues of the jāhilī Arabs which have been accepted and improved.
